Islam (ْاسلام) is derived from Arabic word سلامتی which means peace. Peace means security for all people and to provide opportunities for living a peaceful life.
Similarly the second meaning is "loyalty". i.e to be loyal to the orders of Allah and his Prophet P.B.U.H. To spend such a life according to it, and as a result of which all the human beings could spend their lives with discipline and social harmony and every individual wishes a peaceful life from every Muslim. Therefore the definition of a Muslim given by the Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H is that
"A Muslim is a person from him others are safe from his words and his hands, that he does not put hand on others, does not exploit rights of other peoples, does not abuse others, does not misuse his tongue, so with loyalty and obedience to Allah. The idea of love for mankind comes to his mind, Therefore, there are two basic things in the teachings of Islam, i.e one is true worship of Allah, and second is love for mankind. The true worship of Allah must lead to LOVE FOR MANKIND. It is because the submission to Allah is by Heart, and there is no method to see inside heart except that the effect of relation with Allah on his Heart should appear in his real world and in practical life, and it can only be seen in real world, if he has a passion of right thinking and welfare for others, and to make them successful in their lives.
The Quran says about the Prophet P.B.U.H that
"You(Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H) should declare that I am the first Muslim"
So the first Muslim is the Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H. and Allah praise the prophet with that
وما ارسلنک الا رحمت اللعالمین
i.e Holy Prophet P.B.U.H is the cause of peace mercy and grace for all worlds, all mankind.
It is due to the mercy of mankind that all the Prophets (P.B.U.T) fought with brutal and cruel people who were the reason of loss and oppression on mankind. So the basic passion in Islam is Peace, love for mankind, security, True worship of God, This is the real Islam. Islam does not inculcate sectarianism, does not make sects and groups so that on the basis of sectarianism, the mankind gets divided. In fact Islam acts basically to remove the division of mankind and to give them their due rights.
